Prof Marianna Kruithof-de Julio

Professor Kruithof-de Julio leads the Urology Research Laboratory at the University of Bern and the Organoid CORE facility. Her team develops and applies tools for precision medicine. She has established patient derived organoids of bladder and prostate cancer and uses microvascular on chip chambers to study single cell functional potential. Her research group has a holistic view of the cancer: they examine the tumor cells, the stroma, the immune cells and the vasculature. The team is particularly interested in creating tools that allow us to address key questions that are relevant to the clinical challenges. Through this multidisciplinary approach they aim to uncover the mechanisms that cause metastasis and, ultimately, control and predict the cancer progression. Her work is motivated by the desire to translate research to patients in an effective and meaningful way.
